Week #6

The news has sunken in... I am pregnant. At six weeks, my pregnancy is still new and at times I'm a little nervous. Add that to some pretty uncomfortable early pregnancy symptoms which I have been pretty lucky to have not experienced many yet. What’s amazing to know is that of many of the crucial areas of the babies development have already started at 6 weeks including circulating blood and sprouting eyes. Now that I'm really pregnant, I have a million questions on my mind all day. Luckily, I have been smart enough to write them down so I can ask my OB at my first prenatal visit.

Your baby's the size of a sweet pea!
The average embryo at week 6 is about .25 inches and will double in size again next week.
Wow!

Your baby at 6 weeks:

  • Obviously, she's growing like crazy!
  • She's also circulating blood with her increasingly more sophisticated circulatory sytem.
  • She's about to get cuter too, since she's starting to sprout a nose, eyes, ears, chin and cheeks.
  • And she might even be wiggling her (paddle-like) hands and feet.

How far along? 6 weeks, and 5 days.

Best moment this week: Scheduling my first pre-natal doctor's appointment. I asked my dear friends the Mendez family, who I used to nanny for who was the best doctor available. Lunar Month One Complete

Did you know? Today marks the end of the first month of my pregnancy. Each gestational month is based on a lunar month of 28 days, or four 7-day weeks. Baby and I have only 8 1/2 more months to go!

Now that I am officially a "Mom to be" my husband Zachery purchased me some lovely pregnancy books. The titles listed below are the ones that he has bought. I have been such a nerd lately seeing how I have devoured reading about pregnancy symptoms and have dissected all five books rigorously. :) I feel like quite the expert now.

:) After reading all these resources I still feel nervous and anxious about the days ahead. So far my pregnancy has been a breeze and I hardly have had any negative pregnancy symptoms. I might be in for a upcoming treat seeing how I am only 6 weeks along. Time will tell.

Week #5

Five weeks is a common time when moms-to-be find out they’re pregnant (though some won’t discover it for a couple more weeks still). That’s because by now you probably realized you’ve missed your period. Plus, heightened pregnancy hormone levels may be giving you some symptoms that are tough to ignore, like sore breasts, nausea and fatigue. (Those same hormones are the ones your pregnancy test picked up to give you a positive result.) These are just the beginning of the slew of changes your body is about to go through. No need to worry though: many moms-to-be say the first trimester was the toughest part of pregnancy, so you’re probably getting the rough stuff out of the way early. In the meantime, be sure to take care of yourself and get plenty of rest, eat right and test out some ways to deal with the queasies (eating small, more frequent meals is one good one). Maybe even ask your partner for a massage. After all, you might not have a big bump, but at five weeks pregnant, your body is working fast and furiously to grow baby, so you deserve a little TLC, right?

My baby's the size of an appleseed!

My embryo is now measurable -- though at week five, it's a wee .13 inches -- and she's gearing up for much more growth. In fact, in the next week, she'll almost double in size. Grow baby grow!

My baby at 5 weeks: The embryo doesn't look like much more than a tadpole right now, but at five weeks, she's already starting to form major organs (heart, stomach, liver, kidney) and systems (digestive, circulatory, nervous).]

How far along? 5 weeks, and 5 days.
